Samuel Thompson enjoys a career that includes solo, orchestra, chamber music and interdisciplinary performance and arts journalism.

Recent solo appearances include the East Coast premiere of Florence Price's Violin Concerto No. 1 with Daniel Spalding and the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey and Vaughan Williams' Concerto Accademico with the Hopkins Concert Orchestra.  Samuel has been heard in venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Wortham Theatre Center (Houston) and Koerner Hall (Toronto) in addition to numerous concerts and recitals in cities including New Haven, Washington DC, Baltimore, Austin, Chicago, Miami, and both Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina.    Internationally, he has been heard on concert stages in Canada, the Bahamas, Guadeloupe and Cameroon.

An active member of the regional arts community, Samuel was tapped to appear as concertmaster of the Peabody Concert Opera for the 2016 premiere of Paul Crabtree's The Ghost Train.  He performs regularly with the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra and the Delaware Symphony, and has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, and Washington DC's Great Noise Ensemble.  Samuel has also served as a grant panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council and adjudicated regional solo and ensemble competitions.

Dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion in arts education, Samuel is a Teaching Artist both for the DC Youth Orchestra Program and the Bridges Music Program of Baltimore.    He has written for Strings Magazine, the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, online industry magazine Violinist.com and Nigel Kennedy Online.
