The International Florence Price Festival (Price Fest) is an annual festival dedicated to the music of composer Florence Price. Our inaugural festival launched digitally in August 2020, and in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 2021. Watch our recent special event and register for the online festival here.

Mission

The International Florence Price Festival is dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of composer Florence Beatrice Price through an annual festival featuring all of Price’s musical output as well as scholarly, educational, and advocacy-oriented events.

Vision

The International Florence Price Festival’s vision is to become a recognized leader in the performance and interpretation of the music of Florence Price, her contemporaries, and the music of historically marginalized composers.

Values

Price History – We commit to preserving and expanding the body of knowledge about Florence Price by faithfully presenting her music while serving as an important catalyst for research about her music, life, and world.

Price Legacy – We commit to acknowledging the hard lessons of the history of discrimination and underrepresentation in classical music in the United States as we work to give young composers of every race and gender the opportunity to have their music heard.

Price Advocacy – We commit to continuing the Price legacy by advocating that her work be performed by orchestras both domestically and internationally as a means to ensure her works are considered consistently, among other masterworks.

Inclusivity – We commit to building and sustaining an inclusive audience for Price’s music by offering all of our programming to the broadest community possible and by engaging with underserved populations.
